Non-Religious Reasons Why Promiscuity is Bad
First off no you won’t burn in hell for hooking up on grindr. This article specifically makes no moral argument on promiscuity that is based on religion.
Two days ago I saw an article in my newsfeed Why I Put a Dragon Fruit Up My Butt . Thanks to Facebook’s targeting advertising the promoters must have only assumed as a gay man I would be curious or even aroused to read such an article. Quite the opposite I was disgusted. I’ve been to parties where people were fisting and doing all kinds of kinky shit. I was turned off by all of it. It is really sad that our culture not only accepts but promotes promiscuity. Promiscuity is simply not healthy for a plethora of reasons. A few of which are discussed below.
The Brain Adapts and Requires More and More Stimulation
What do sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll all have in common? They all give the brain the same high. They release dopamine and other endogenous opioids that give a person that ‘high’. Just like with drug use one way the brain compensates is to reduce the number of dopamine receptors at the synapse. In addition, sending neurons increase their number of dopamine transporters, more quickly clearing dopamine from the synapse. These changes make the brain less responsive to the drug, but they also decrease the brain’s response to natural rewards. Mallik This leads to more and more stimulation being necessary to achieve the same level of pleasure. For example inserting large objects into the anus.
Casual Sex Can Lead to Depression and Illicit Drug Use
In the same line of reduced stimulation promiscuity can lead to use of illicit drugs. Studies that show that promiscuous people are far more likely to engage in and be okay with illicit drug use. “… people who agreed with statements like, ‘Sex without love is OK,’ and ‘I can imagine myself being comfortable and enjoying “casual” sex with different partners,’ and who approved of internet pornography had more favourable attitudes towards recreational drug use. “McGreal
It’s also no secret the promiscuous people are more likely to be depressed and have other mental health challenges
College students who recently engaged in casual sex reported lower levels of self-esteem, life-satisfaction, and happiness compared to those who had not have casual sex in the past month. And students who recently engaged in hookups had higher distress scores as indicated by levels of depression and anxiety. … For both men and women, true hookup sex—with a casual stranger rather than a romantic partner or “friend with benefits”—seemed to bode poorly for mental health and self-esteem.Whitbourne
This is no surprise. Most gay men have probably hooked up with a stranger at some point. I know I have. How did you feel after that Grindr hookup? It is documented that Grindr and other sex apps can lead to lower self esteem.Read More . The gay hookup culture is particular is problematic. Guys can be quite nasty to each other on sex apps. Statements such as ‘no fats, fems, or olds’ are commonplace. Maybe you’ve had a guy over and he decided he wasn’t into you bounced? How did that make you feel?
Promiscuity Leads to Increased Risk of STIs
Most people know that the more sex you have the higher your chance of getting an sexually transmitted infection. Most people think about HIV and shrug their shoulders because they can use a condom. The condom, however, is not a guarantee. Herpes, HPV, Syphillis, and Public lice/crabs can all be caught even if you are wearing a condom. Also there’s a scary attitude amongst the younger generation in the gay community that living with HIV is ‘no big deal’. Many young people think they just have a pop a few pills and everything will be alright. While it’s true with proper treatment your chances of dying from HIV are quite low whats often not discussed is the quality of life. People experienced migraines, nausea, vomiting, extreme mood swings as a result of their HIV meds. My ex had HIV and it broke my heart to see the horrible headaches and pain he experienced everyday as a result of his HIV medication. There are many people that choose to stop taking their meds even though they know it will kill them.
Promiscuous People are Poorer
Promiscuity is often a symptom of lack of self control. There is plenty of research that suggest that promiscuous people tend to have lower incomes as well as less satisfaction with life. Dinkleman Study after study demonstrates the #1 indicator of success is grit. That is the ability to put off short term pleasures for long term goals. If you can’t control yourself sexually chances are high you also can’t resist other temptations such as gambling, drugs, or even the desire to tell someone (like a superior) off. This is why grit even surpasses IQ as an indicator of success.
In Conclusion: Promiscuity is Bad & Religion has Nothing to do With It
In conclusion promiscuity is bad for both men and women. We cannot let the hyper sexed gay hookup culture lure us in. We must show restraint in our lives if we wish to be successful in and out of the bedroom. Long term couples are less likely to suffer from domestic abuse and report being happier than those who are single and sexually promiscuous. Illiades If we want to live happy productive lives then it is advised that we avoid promiscuity.
